Georgia Power Files with Public Service Commission

Georgia Power Company is requesting $470 million for its fuel cost recovery which if approved would result in an increase of approximately 6.8% to the total monthly bill. GPC cites the increase in the cost of coal as the primary reason behind the request. The PSC is expected to reach a decision on March 11th and any new rates would go into effect on April 1st.

Alabama Power Reduces Rates in 2010

Due to the drop in coal and natural gas prices along with an increase in hydroelectric production, Alabama Power Company has reduced its rates by approximately 2.1%. The rate reduction follows a 13.35% increase last October and will remain in effect until October 2010.

City of Atlanta Water and Sewer Rates Rise

The second incremental increase in water and sewer rates takes effect in July with a 12.5% increase.  This is the second in a series of increases passed by the Atlanta City Council in 2008 to pay for it's $4 billion water and sewer improvements.  The years 2010 and 2011 will have similar increases.

Atlanta Gas Light Requests Rate Surchase

In order to pay for a $400 million, 10 year project to expand the capacity of pipelines in metro Atlanta and liquefied natural gas storage facilities, AGL has proposed a $.95 increase per month in it's residential surcharge and $2.95 per month in it's small business surcharge.  If approved by the PSC, the increase would start in October.
